Burke and Helen spend a lot of years working through their problems to find their ways back to each other.It sounds heavy, but while it is a little sentimental (in the style of its period) it is an entertaining and thought-provoking read. Good for girls who have enjoyed Louisa May Alcott but might not be quite ready for Elizabeth Prentiss' Stepping Heavenward. Road to Understanding is not explicitly Christian, but it is explicitly moral. I'll probably read it again.

Two people very different people marry. One leaves the other to improve herself, the other suffers rejection and loneliness. The happy ending seems highly unlikely, but Ms Porter, master storyteller that she is, rapid everything up happily at the end,
I love Eleanor Porter!!!!!! This isn't as good as Miss Billy or Pollyanna grows up but is still a good read -) especially since it's free ;-)
