Have you ever read a book, that you hoped would not end? This is Book 4, of the Dan Coast series, and you do not want
it to end, as there are way too many stories that need to be
played out.
The story starts with Dan having a Christmas "meltdown".
What, you don't know why he had that type of a problem?
You have not read Book 3, have you?
If not, I would advise you, to stop right here, and go get the book,
read it, then come on back.
For those that have read it, Dan gets himself into a bit of trouble, and
gets a free trip, to the local "mental" facility, for a bit.
Where we get to meet, Dr Richards, he of the wandering eye and roving hands,
along with a rich wife, and a "prenup".
Over there is RN Maxine, she likes Dan, and Dan likes her, so much so, that they
"met" in the janitor's closet, for a........you get the idea.
Then there is Officer Mel, his sister is missing, and Dan says he will help Mel find her.
There was a bully of an Orderly, Lonnie, note I said "was".
Of course, we still have all of the old cast members, including Buddy.
The story really makes you feel like you are in Key West, and the fact that I am at my
beach property, and it is 92 and sunny, as I write this review, helps.
Enjoy the quick read, and grab a rum and coke.

Ship of Fools From the Tales of Dan Coast edition by Rodney Riesel Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Rodney once again did not disappoint! I love his Key West based novels. Have not read his Jake novels. South Florida is a big part of my genre taste. Rodney develops his characters masterfully. Do not hesitate, buy this one!
Dan sure has a penchant for trouble. His nutty sidekick in this tale sure brings a surprise into the story. I felt that the reader needed a reminder of Dan Coast's background and how he came into his money. Other than that, I enjoyed the book immensely.
I love this series. I will read then all.
This was a fantastically good book! The humor was exceptional, the plot was good, the characters very believable, and the only problem I found was it was over way to soon. I hope Riesel keeps the Dan Coast series going. He has definitely risen in the ranks with Dorsey, Hiaassen, and my new favorite author Jon Breakfield!!!
Dan Coast is in rare form in Ship of Fools as his sarcastic side shines through. I thought this was the best one of the series yet. The others were good but this one didn't seem as "dark" as the others and Dan was allowed to let himself go and enjoy things alittle better. Mel makes a good sidekick for him so maybe that helped.
Okay, so now I've read all four of the Dan Coast novels in about two weeks.
I'm going against the grain and say this was not the best. I think #2 was the best.
Sleeping dogs Lie was great, Ocean Floors was better, then Christmas Coast was too involved with his drinking, and ship of Fools tried too hard for Dan to be glib all the time. And unlike the cover, it had nothing to do with ships or boats.
I liked it better when the police chief liked Dan.
I'll miss reading more, so I'll try something by the same author
Great book. His best yet. I'm only half way through it,and it's by far better than the other 3. All 3 were good books as well. This book, the authors humor goes to another level. Chapter 5 was a riot. I could easily kill it in one sitting, but want to space it out. Riesel makes you laugh out loud. This guy is getting better as the books drop. Already looking for the next Dan Coast novel from him. I'd put his sharp wit up there with Dorsey and Hiasaan. Great stuff. Keep it coming.
